About
The Chikara Institute of Medicine and Allied Sciences (CIMAS) was founded by Dr Ankur Chikara to teach clinical medicine the way it is practised: clearly, from first principles, and with the confidence that comes from asking questions. SNOWL is the institute's learning platform, and soon its app.
The name
The snowy owl is calm, sharp-eyed and awake when everyone else is asleep, which is roughly when most medical students study. Dr. Snowl, our owl, is the companion who sits with you through the night before the exam. Depth of knowledge, carried lightly.
The people
Internal medicine physician, diabetologist and medical educator. Founder and lead faculty of CIMAS. Every SNOWL course, question bank and live lecture is built from his clinical teaching.
What we teach
Every course on SNOWL belongs to a series. The name tells you how you will learn, and honours someone worth remembering.
Clinical medicine lectures. Charaka, author of the Charaka Samhita, is the father of Indian medicine.
Cases, viva and Q&A. Sushruta, the father of surgery, taught by demonstration and questioning.
Question bank, MCQs and flashcards. Madhavakara wrote the Madhava Nidana, the classic text on diagnosis.
Careers, interviews and exams. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, physician and Bharat Ratna, is remembered every National Doctors' Day.
Research and public health. Dr Yellapragada Subbarow's work gave the world folate therapy, methotrexate and tetracycline.
Curriculum and foundations. Dr Anandibai Joshi was the first Indian woman to earn a degree in Western medicine.
